50 days to go to the Pan American Games, Lima 2019 will deliver tomorrow the Villa El Salvador Sports Center to the Gymnastics Federation so Peruvian athletes can start preparing for the Games.
The Villa El Salvador Sports Center is a new stage built in 12 months for the Lima 2019 Games. This Center will greatly help athletes in their preparation for the Pan American Games and it will be a great legacy for upcoming competitions.
This is the fourteenth facility delivered to the federations. The baseball, softball, hockey and rugby stadiums were delivered as well as the Basque pelota, Peruvian fronton courts and the VMT Aquatic Center. The Bowling Center, the athletics warm-up track and the Aquatic Center at the VIDENA were also delivered. The Callao Sports Center, the Miguel Grau Coliseum and the stadium of the National University of San Marcos are already operating for Lima 2019.
The Villa El Salvador Sports Center will host artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline disciplines, as well as karate Kumite and Kata. Peru has great chances of winning medals in Karate since Alexandra Grande is one of our best representatives. She is a Lima 2019 Ambassador and is in the world top ten in kumite.
Villa El Salvador Sports Center is an important legacy for sports development, and people living in Lima Sur will enjoy this after the largest multi-sport event of the Americas. This venue will host boccia and wheelchair rugby during the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.
It has a surface of 49,000 m2 area and will have two blocks: one for competitions and one for training, close the Pan American and Parapan American Village. The competition coliseum will have capacity for more than 5000 people and will have retractable stands.
It has two mega structures; the main one is made of concrete and metal and has four grandstand areas, accessible areas for people with impairments, as well as toilets and changing rooms that will be available for athletes during the competition.
The second structure is basically made of metal and it will be used as a warm-up area before competitions. Likewise, it is important to note that these are two individual structures.
Villa El Salvador Sports Center will promote sports for children, young people and adults who can access the facilities and perform physical activities.
After the Lima 2019 Games, the Sports Center will remain as a legacy for gymnastics, volleyball, sitting volleyball, basketball, wheelchair basketball, handball, wheelchair basketball, futsal, fencing, badminton, Para badminton, wrestling, karate, table tennis and Para table tennis, available both for neighbors and elite athletes.
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The opening ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games will be held at the National Stadium on July 26, 2019. This continental event will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries and delegations from the Americas.
There will be 17 days of competitions and ceremonies between July 26 and August 11, 2019, which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao at different venues such as the VIDENA, Villa María Sports Center, Callao Regional Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 22 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Parapan American Games will gather 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, participating in 17 sports and 18 disciplines. Competitions will take place from August 23 to September 1, 2019. Thirteen sports will be qualifiers for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
