Delegations from different countries participating in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, which will take place in Lima from July 26 to August 11 this year, highlighted the progress made in the different areas of the organization of the event, such as security, transport, accommodation and sports infrastructure. Ivar Sisniega, Panam Sports Secretary General said that their executive committee is very impressed with the progress made by the Lima 2019 Organization. “They have worked hard, against time and they have made great progress in infrastructure. A world-class infrastructure legacy will remain for Peruvian athletes in Lima,” he stated to Andina News Agency.
It was during the Chefs de Mission seminar organized by Lima 2019 in a hotel in San Isidro, where the heads of delegations from 41 participating countries gathered to discuss the final details on the arrival of over 6700 athletes during the second fortnight in July. “There is a great interaction between the Lima 2019 Pan American Games Organizing Committee and the heads of delegations, who are the links between the athletes and the Organizing Committee, and therefore, this is one of the most important meetings," he indicated. He also expressed that conditions for the proper development of these Games will be especially exceptional because they will coincide with school holidays and fast lanes will be remodeled for athletes transportation from accommodations to sports venues. Pan American Village He pointed out that the Pan American Village is a comfortable place for athletes, where six athletes will be accommodated per apartment. Each apartment includes two shared bathrooms and a living room.
Carlos Neuhaus, president of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games Organizing Committee (COPAL), said that security, transport, accommodation and sports infrastructure issues will be solved before the starting date of this important sport competition. He expressed that meetings started today with the heads of the 41 sports delegations to consolidate the interaction between representatives of different countries with the Games organizers. “So when athletes arrive to Peru, all issues will be solved. Obviously, some other issues will rise in time. That’s why these kind of meetings are useful for visitors to get to know the teams and have a personal relationship,” he said. During the interview, Neuhaus pointed out that the Pan American Village includes dining areas, gift shops and meeting rooms for athletes comfort. He confirmed that most locations will be finished on March 31, with enough time to make the necessary arrangements before the Games start.
Security indicated that coordination has already been made with the authorities of the Ministry of the Interior, Peruvian Police and military forces to guarantee security during the Games. “There is a security team made up of senior retired officers. They have come from several countries to oversee security aspects and, in some countries, embassies have a person exclusively dedicated to the Games security,” he said.
