For the first time, Lima will be the venue of the Pan American Congress of Sports Medicine where the Second Doping Control Officers Accreditation will take place, in a year in which Peru will be a world class venue for the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
This important Congress, organized by Lima 2019 through its Operations Department and the Medical Services Department, will be held on May 9 and 10 with Peruvian and international speakers. It will be carried out at the Peruvian Medical Association, in Miraflores.
Alberto Valenzuela, Lima 2019 operations manager, highlighted the importance of this meeting. “Lima 2019 Games will involve around 600 health professionals, specialized in physical rehabilitation, nutrition and physical medicine. It is a huge project and all professionals will be Peruvians dedicated to provide their services at competitions and non-competition venues (such as the Pan American and Parapan American Village). For this purpose, we conduct this Congress with the best professionals from 16 countries so they can be trained in sports medicine,” said Valenzuela.
The Operations Manager also talked about the anti-doping system to be implemented in the Lima 2019 Games. “It is designed with the highest Olympic standards of security, chain of custody and supply. For this, we will have special imported Berlinger kits only used in Olympic Games. Kits have two bottles for tests A and B. These tests will be sent to the laboratory in Montreal, Canada, so they can be analyzed. Results must be available in 72 hours,” he said.
Valenzuela indicated that people interested can register at [email protected] and it is open to health professionals, such as nutritionists, doctors, nurses, etc. Registration is free.
At the same time, the Second Doping Control Officers Accreditation will take place. It will allow Peruvian officers to be ready for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games. The role of these officers will be to guarantee the correct sample collection for anti-doping control and analysis in athletes.
Sixty Peruvian officers, trained by the Peruvian Anti-Doping Commission (CONAD), will attend the accreditation course and will be evaluated by experts of the Panam Sports Medical Commission in real situations, during controls to national athletes.
