As part of the multi-sport event taking place in Lima, the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games Organizing Committee (COPAL) and the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCR) introduced the commemorative medal of this top-level sports competition.
Carlos Neuhaus, president of COPAL, estimated the medals will have a good reception, just like the Opening Ceremony tickets. He stated around 15 thousand people from the delegations of the 41 participating countries and over 150 thousand visitors will arrive at Lima for the event.
“We’re already in Games-time. [...] The Opening Ceremony will showcase 4000 years of history,” he stressed. Neuhaus also highlighted the features of the Pan American and Parapan American Village: it has 1096 modern apartments and will house more than 5000 athletes, providing them with all the amenities.
MEDALS SALES
After pointing out that the Games commemorative medal seeks to highlight this sporting event, the Manager of the BCR Circulating Management, Javier Gutierrez, reported 10 thousand medals have been coined. These will be available for sale, starting at PEN 27.00, through the Central Reserve Bank of Peru website (www.bcrp.gob.pe).
Likewise, the medals will be sold at the BCR Museum, located at Jirón Lampa 474, Lima, as well as at the Lima International Book Fair that will start on July 19. He added other points of sale will be soon defined.
“The Games infrastructure legacy is important. Many sports venues have been built or improved to an international competition level. It’s a legacy for current and future generations that encourages sports practice,so the country has elite athletes,” he said.
TRIBUTE TO HISTORY
The front of the medals, made with an alpaca alloy (zinc, copper and nickel) of 37 millimeters, features “Milco”, the Lima 2019 mascot, along with the Pan American and Parapan American Games legend and the competition official logo.
Meanwhile, the reverse contains an image of the Amancaes flower, representative of Lima; the Torre Tagle Palace; a figure of three athletes representing the north, center and south of the Americas; and some undulating lines portraying the Peruvian sea.
By the end of the ceremony, a tour was carried out around the Games competition facilities located at the National Sports Village in the district of San Luis.
