The Lima 2019 Executive Secretary Amalia Moreno reported that the Pan American and Parapan American Games organization is working to complete the ‘Last mile’ project. This project has to do with the work carried out within a 1600-meter radius of each venue, in the districts of Villa María del Triunfo, Villa El Salvador and San Luis, among others. “We decided on handing over the budget for these projects to the municipalities,” she said.
Afterwards, she stressed the importance of the legacy that will remain with the modern infrastructure that is being built and remodeled. “This is an investment for the future. We are working for the future and for the benefits that the Games will leave behind,” she said.
She also noted that the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee is working alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate the entry into the country of close to 20 thousand athletes and technical officials who will participate in the Pan American and Parapan American Games, starting this July.
Meanwhile, the Lima 2019 Operations Manager Alberto Valenzuela informed that Games security, transportation and medical services are working hand in hand with the officials in charge. “We are working in coordination with all government bodies and local authorities. Regarding security, we will have six thousand police officers who will graduate in June and assist with security during Games. In addition, a Pan American lane will be implemented to facilitate the transit of athletes,” he said.
FULLY SECURE
Valenzuela said that during the Games, 350 buses will be used to transport athletes and there will be more than 1000 vehicles for the delegations that will arrive in the country. All of them will be fully secure. Regarding medical services, he said that the Ministry of Health will make available to participants the Mobile Emergency Care System (SAMU) and emergency care in hospitals that will be near the venues.
The Operations Manager also highlighted the legacy of the sports infrastructure, since during the last visit of the United States Olympic Committee delegate, they were surprised by the venues, among them, the Athletics Stadium at VIDENA. Additionally, he stated that this venue can host, in the short term, a world championships.
While David Dall’Orto, head of the Program Management Office, said that Lima 2019 has submitted 22 Management Plans for the sustainability and good use of sports venues after the Games, as well as a Master Plan for market launch of the Pan American and Parapan American Village, which will become the first accessible housing complex in Peru and will remain as a legacy for the country.
These statements were made during the Lima 2019 Organizing Committees participation in the Education, Youth and Sports Commission meeting of the Peruvian Congress. Local, regional and Peruvian National Police officials also attended the meeting to discuss the progress in the development of the Pan American and Parapan American Games in Peru.
In this context, Milagros Salazar, president of the Educational, Youth and Sports Commission, praised the recent visit of the members of her work group to the different venues that will host the Games. She said she was surprised by the progress made in recent months.
The governor of the Callao Region, Dante Mandriotti; the mayor of Villa El Salvador, Kevin Iñigo; and the mayor of Villa María del Triunfo, Eloy Chávez, also participated in the meeting, as well as the representatives of the local officials of Callao, San Luis and the Peruvian National Police, Colonel Manuel Centeno.
