LIMA 2019: PAVING PROCESS STARTS AT ATHLETICS STADIUM OF VIDENA

Works at the main venue for the Games will end by March 31, while the Aquatic Center and external works will be completed by May 31.

Almost six months before the start of the Games, the progress of the National Sports Village (VIDENA) is increasingly evident, as gigantic structures are erected in this precinct. The VIDENA is the main competition venue of the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games, the largest multi-sport event of the continent.

The most recent milestone in the construction of this venue is the start of the paving process at the Athletics Stadium, that will allow to place a modern track for competition. The completion of metallic roofing of the Velodrome is also scheduled for this month, as well as the roof and cover of the Sports Center 3, and the competition and warm-up swimming pools of the Aquatic Center.

The National Sports Village includes a Velodrome, an Athletics Stadium with warm-up track, a 24-lane Bowling Center, an Aquatic Center with three state-of-the-art pools, the Sports Center 3, as well as external works and the administration building with a Control Center (C2).

All works at this precinct will be ready by March 31, 2019, according to the established schedule. Meanwhile, the calibration of pools in the Aquatic Center will be done by May 31.

In addition to this, landscaping and tree-planting works began in the exterior of the VIDENA. This initiative will help to make access and surrounding avenues more attractive during the Lima 2019 Games and will leave an important legacy for the district of San Luis.

The new facilities at the VIDENA will house Athletics, Swimming, Track Cycling, Badminton, Bowling, Squash, Handball, Figure Skating, Table Tennis and Judo for the Pan American Games. Additionally, it will host Para Athletics, Para Swimming, Wheelchair Basketball, Para Powerlifting, Para Judo, Para Badminton, Para Table Tennis and Para Track Cycling at the Velodrome for the Parapan American Games.
