After the organizational success of the Judo Panamerican Championships and the Para Powerlifting World Cup last month, Lima 2019 announced that the last seven test events will take place at the Lima 2019 Games venues.
Today, the Lima 2019 Executive Director Carlos Neuhaus announced at the press conference that the seven test events will activate the operations of the Games different functional areas to welcome the best athletes of the Americas.
He mentioned that the South American Athletics Championships will take place between May 24 and 26 at the Athletics Stadium of the VIDENA. Several athletes of the Americas will arrive in Lima to compete for their qualification for the World Cup to be held in Doha, Qatar.
The Women’s U-20 International Volleyball Quadrangular Tournament will feature participants from Peru, Argentina, Colombia and Chile during those days. This friendly tournament will be held at the new Callao Sports Center, which will officially open its doors after its handover to the Peruvian Volleyball Federation last month.
Likewise, an internal equestrian jumps tournament will take place at the Army Equitation School, which was also remodeled for Lima 2019.
Next Wednesday the Peruvian baseball team will participate in a match at the stadium of the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center.
PRE-OLYMPIC TOURNAMENT
“We’re very happy with the next events because we’re already in Games-time. Now we’re discussing some final details and correcting a few things. I want to invite all fans to join this celebration for the Games,” said Neuhaus.
The pre-Olympic women’s rugby tournament will be held on June 1 and 2 and will be qualifier for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. All competitions will be carried out in the Rugby Stadium at the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center. Meanwhile, the South American Junior and Cadets Fencing Championships will be held from June 3 to 8 at the Lima Convention Center.
Finally, the Peruvian National Para athletics Championships will be held between June 8 and 9 at the Athletics Stadium of the VIDENA. In this tournament, our athletes hope to obtain the minimum marks to qualify for the Parapan American Games.
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The opening ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games will be held at the National Stadium on July 26, 2019. This continental event will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries and delegations from the Americas. On July 24, the sports calendar starts with handball.
There will be 19 days of competitions and ceremonies between July 24 and August 11, 2019, which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao at different venues such as the VIDENA, Villa María Sports Center, Callao Regional Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 22 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Parapan American Games will gather 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, participating in 17 sports and 18 disciplines. The competitions will take place from August 23 to September 1, 2019. A total of 13 Para sports are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
