The Lima 2019 Organizing Committee went to Gálvez Chipoco Stadium for a sports day in celebration the World Physical Activity Day.
Lima 2019, promoting the Games, made an exhibition of the following Para sports: Football 5-a-side and wheelchair basketball. In addition, there was a aerobic marathon and taekwondo demonstrations, as well as athletics events, with the participation of Para athletes of the Municipal Service Office for People with Impairments (OMAPED).
The event gathered around 300 people and Milco, the Pan American and Parapan American Games mascot, who was there to show the importance of the Lima 2019 Games.
“Para athletes from OMAPED train in Chipoco, many of them are part of the Para athletics team, and the Parapan American Games really makes them proud,” says Marina Soto, district councilor.
“The Pan American and Parapan American Games are an opportunity to heighten Peru’s name. We have to show the world the level of the athletes we have and promote the sports,” said José Hernández, district councilor.
María Sofía Patiño, a young lady from Barranco, participated in football 5-a-side. “When you play football, you are looking at the ball, but in this case when you are blindfolded, you have to pay attention to sound and it is a really different feel”, she said.
In this way, Lima 2019 continues to promote and spread the Games, promoting integration and values they represent.
