Less than 58 days away from the opening ceremony of the Pan American Games, the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee presented the management balance of the different functional areas to Congress representatives.
The meeting was led by Carlos Neuhaus, Lima 2019 executive director, and attended by congress representative Milagros Salazar, president of the Youth, Education and Sports Committee, representatives Luciana León, Gladys Andrade, Guido Lombardi and Marco Miyashiro, who received reports on the progress made by the Organizing Committee for the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
Carlos Neuhaus accompanied by Alberto Valenzuela, operations manager, and Juan Antonio Silva, communications, commercial and marketing manager, made a presentation about the torch relay, beginning on July 2 in Mexico and as off July 4 it will travel across Peru. He also revealed that the start of ticket sales beat the record in its first days thanks to the people's expectation.
He also talked about the transportation of about 10,000athletes and technical officials between the Pan American and Parapan American Village and the competition venues, as well as the security to be implemented in the Games, including 20,000 agents of the National Police of Peru, the Armed Forces, and private security.
After the meeting, the Congress members toured the Lima 2019 main venues, starting with VIDENA. They visited the Bowling Center, where they played in the 24 modern lanes. This stage has been considered one of the bests in the continent. They also visited the warm-up athletics track, which has already been delivered to the Federation.
They also visited the operational modern Athletics Stadium, which recently hosted the South American Athletics Championship. The delegation visited the Aquatic Center, the Velodrome and the Sports Center 3, where outdoor and finishing works were carried out for the delivery of the venues in the next days.
The Congress representatives praised the efforts of the Lima 2019 organization and the status of the new venues that were built for the Lima 2019 Games. They expressed their confidence in the successful delivery of the multi-sports event that will begin in 58 days.
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The opening ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games will be held at the National Stadium on July 26, 2019. This continental event will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries and delegations from the Americas. According to the schedule, handball will kick off all competitions on July 24.
There will be 19 days of competitions and ceremonies between July 24 and August 11, 2019, which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao at different venues such as the VIDENA, Villa María Sports Center, Callao Regional Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 22 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Parapan American Games will gather 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, participating in 17 sports and 18 disciplines. Competitions will take place from August 23 to September 1, 2019. A total of 13 Para sports will be qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
