Under the slogan Culture and Sports Festival, the Organizing Committee of the Pan American and Parapan American Games presented the Lima 2019 Cultural Program called 'Culturaymi'.
It is an unprecedented initiative in the country: a simultaneous proposal to the Games official competitions, which plans to display the artistic and cultural richness of Peru to the national community and international audience.
Culturaymi’s activities will be carried out to celebrate sports’ values in the Americas, as well as the diversity of the historical and artistic heritage of the Games host country.
The Executive Director of Lima 2019, Carlos Neuhaus; the Minister of Culture, Ulla Holmquist; and the Communications, Commercial and Marketing Manager of Lima 2019, Juan Antonio Silva, were present in the program's official presentation held at the Ministry of Culture.
Carlos Neuhaus noted that we should never separate sports and culture, since "one nourishes the other". "That's why we, at Lima 2019, put a lot of emphasis on cultural aspects. The Games represent a great opportunity to show our culture through Culturaymi, both the sports culture and the ancient culture.
He assured that 15 thousand people, among athletes, Para athletes and technical officials, would arrive to our country during the Pan American and Parapan American Games, as well as 150 thousand tourists.
On the other hand, the Minister of Culture emphasized that the Lima 2019 Cultural Program is an invaluable opportunity for the population to rescue sports values and apply them outside this field.
"Hosting these Games, an event of a magnitude not yet seen in our country, is an opportunity to make these values, usually associated with sport, such as fair play, respect for the rules, individual discipline and collective collaboration, guide our country in every action. The Games must be a moment that brings out our best. "
Juan Antonio Silva stated that the Lima 2019 Cultural Program aims to leave a cultural and artistic legacy in the country. "Culturaymi seeks to leave a legacy to the cultural industry for the ministries and local governments of the country regarding how to organize a cultural activity that brings together several participants in an open and democratic way. This program's purpose is to show Peru's creative diversity and its multiple cultural offer."
LIMA 2019 CULTURAL PROGRAM
The cultural venue will be located at the Parque de la Exposición starting from July 27, the day after the Opening Ceremony of the Pan American Games. Entrance will be free.
A Cultural Circuit will be implemented in eight districts of Lima, which concentrate the largest cultural offer of exhibitions and shows in the capital, as part of the program. In this framework, activities and spaces such as museums, exhibition halls and theaters will coexist offering independent proposals and projects.
There will be an extensive activity and events schedule during the Pan American and Parapan American Games until August 31. As part of the attractions, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Children's National Choir and the National Choir will perform on specific dates of the Cultural Program.
It should be noted that the Cultural Program relies on the collaboration of a large number of partners, both from the public and private sector. One of the main partners is the Ministry of Culture. With its support, we have been coordinating actions that will allow us to enhance various aspects of our cultural heritage, both at the venue and in the circuit. We must emphasize that among its valuable contributions there are important projects such as Bicentenario, Qhapaq Ñan, among others. In addition, there will be casts that will recreate the tradition of different regions of the country.
To ensure diverse content, particular emphasis will be given to the Lima 2019 Call for Cultural Projects, through which independent projects will be selected to be part of the Cultural Program.
The Call is available on the website www.lima2019.pe/programa-cultural to register until May 27 and submit projects, which may receive funding in five categories: visual arts, performing arts, music, clothing design and art for social transformation.
The Cultural Program, as a whole, will reflect the values of Lima 2019 such as Excellence, Friendship, Respect and Equality, those typical of the Pan American Games; as well as Courage, Determination, Inspiration and Equality, those typical of the Parapan American Games. They will be promoted for more than 30 days outside every official competition venue.
After the Games, this vast repertoire of exhibitions and demonstrations will remain as an unprecedented artistic and cultural legacy for the Peruvian community and may serve as a model to be replicated in artistic manifestations in the future.
