The Lima mayor Jorge Muñoz, the regional governors Ricardo Chavarría and Dante Mandriotti, as well as provincial and district mayors and congressmen, were also present in this meeting.
Lima 2019 presented the work progress to the new local and regional authorities for the most important multisports event to be held from July 26 to September 1 for the first time in Peru.
At the “Meeting with Local and Regional Authorities”, the Lima 2019 executive president Carlos Neuhaus Tudela praised the sports infrastructure development and urged authorities to provide support to ensure the success of the Pan American and Parapan American Games and make them the best ones yet.
The Lima 2019 President informed on the level of intervention on road and pedestrian infrastructure, transportation, public security and public area cleaning for the Lima 2019 Games. The appointment of regional and district coordinators was also agreed by the organization. The first meeting will be on January 14.
Among the participants were the Lima mayor Jorge Muñoz, the Lima regional governor Ricardo Chavarría, the Callao regional governor Dante Mandriotti, the national director of Training and Sports Technique Carlos Zegarra, as well as congresswoman and president of the Educational, Youth and Sports Commission Milagros Salazar.
Lima Mayor’s Commitment
The Lima mayor Jorge Muñoz Wells committed to support the Games. “We’re going to make these Games a success and we’ll work together. I’m a privileged witness of the efforts made in the organization. There’s a large progress in the venues and it’ll be an important legacy for society,” Muñoz said.
“The authorities’ duty is to show the best image of our cities. The authorities’ full support of the Games will be crucial. We’ll play an important role. Therefore, we’re all committed with the Pan American and Parapan American Games,” the Lima Mayor emphasized.
The Callao mayor Pedro López, the La Punta mayor Pio Salazar, the La Victoria mayor George Forsyth, the San Luis mayor David Rojas, the Surco mayor Jean Pierre Combe and the San Juan de Miraflores mayor María Nina were also present in this meeting.
Other attendees were the Villa María del Triunfo mayor Eloy Chávez, the Villa El Salvador mayor Kevin Yñigo, the Surquillo mayor Giancarlo Cassasa, the Punta Hermosa mayor Jorge Olaechea, the Huaura mayor Eddie Jara, the Vegueta mayor Eutemio Ríos, the Cañete mayor Segundo Díaz and the Lunahuaná mayor Benito Salazar.
Sports Expectations for Lima 2019
During his speech, Carlos Zegarra, IPD National Director of Training and Sports Technique, talked about the preparation of athletes for Lima 2019. Approximately, 49 medals (11 golds, 12 silvers and 26 bronzes) are expected for the Pan American Games. Meanwhile, eight medals are expected for the Parapan American Games. Many athletes are part of the Top Peru program, which provides financial support to train for Lima 2019.
The Lima 2019 ambassadors Dunia Felices, Israel Hilario, Luis Sandoval and Andy Martínez were praised by authorities as examples of effort and dedication for the Games. Likewise, main Top Peru athletes from the Peruvian Institute of Sports (IPD) attended the event.
Venue Tours
After the meeting, the authorities, along with Lima 2019 Ambassadors and Top Peru athletes, visited the main five construction works for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games. The tour started in the National Sports Village (VIDENA) in San Luis, which is the main competition venue for Lima 2019. They observed the construction works in the Sports Center 3, the Aquatic Center, the Bowling Center, the Velodrome and the Athletics Stadium.
Later, they were divided into three groups, according to their districts to visit the progress in the Pan American and Parapan American Village in Villa El Salvador, the Villa El Salvador Sports Center, the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center and the Callao Regional Sports Village.
