The Lima 2019 Executive Director Carlos Neuhaus Tudela presented the scope of the legacy that the Pan American and Parapan American Games will leave behind at the Sports Work Group Meeting of the Peruvian Congress, led by Carlos Domínguez.
In this context, he highlighted that what is most important about organizing a multi-sports competition is the social, economic, urban and sports legacy left behind for the country.
Neuhaus also stated that, thanks to the Games, the world’s spotlight will be on Peru and over 400 million people will follow the competitions and ceremonies of the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
Regarding the economic legacy, he explained that the Games will have an impact of five billion soles on different sectors, which equals 0.7% of the Gross Domestic Product. He added that close to 175,000 tourists will arrive in Lima and leave more than 579 million soles in revenues.
Neuhaus assured that the Lima 2019 Games created 517,000 direct and indirect jobs. Additionally, the impact of “Marca País” abroad is valued at 2430 million soles abroad due to the exposure it will have on a global level.
Likewise, he said that over 200 million soles are expected to be collected from the sale of apartments in the Pan American and Parapan American Village, stressing that Peruvian medalists will receive an apartment free of charge.
The Lima 2019 Executive Director pointed out that the property value of the homes near the Pan American Village in Villa El Salvador will increase approximately 15%. He stated that all the main venues are ready for the Games, and that the Villa El Salvador Sports Center will be delivered tomorrow. He also said that venue delivery management plans have been prepared for after the Games, so as to ensure their self-sustainability.
Finally, he confirmed that over 80,000 tickets have been sold so far for the Pan American Games, highlighting the turnout for the opening ceremony and competition finals.
Members of Congress Karla Schaffer, Luciana León, Paloma Noceda, Leyla Chihuán, Edmundo del Águila and Juan Carlos Yuyes, the Peruvian Sports Institute president and officials from the Comptroller General of the Republic also attended the meeting.
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The Opening Ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games will be held at the National Stadium on July 26, 2019. This continental event will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries and delegations from the Americas. According to the sports calendar, handball will kick off all competitions two days before, on July 24.
There will be 19 days of competitions and ceremonies between July 24 and August 11, 2019, which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao, at different venues such as the VIDENA, Villa María Sports Center, Callao Regional Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 22 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Parapan American Games will gather 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, participating in 17 sports and 18 disciplines. Competitions will take place from August 23 to September 1, 2019. A total of 13 Para sports will be qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
