Seventy-three days before the start of the Pan American Games, Lima 2019 presented this morning the main progress in the organization to the sports work group of the Congress. The largest multi-sports event in the continent will take place in our country starting July 26.
The meeting covered several topics related to the organization of the Pan American and Parapan American Games, such as transportation, security, broadcasting, legacy and the different campaigns that are underway for Lima 2019.
The main advisor of the Lima 2019 executive board Jaime Reusche highlighted the legacy that Lima 2019 will leave regarding sports infrastructure and assured that it will be a success. In that sense, he informed that management plans have been presented to guarantee the life of infrastructure, considering concerns for maintenance of modern sports venues.
Meanwhile, the Lima 2019 Communications, Commercial and Marketing Manager Juan Antonio Silva mentioned that the Pan American torch will visit 16 regions in the country and that the Parapan American torch will travel for three days to raise awareness. There will also be an online follow-up and 300 torchbearers will participate. About the Pan American flame, he said the Lima 2019 website registration is available for people who want to torchbearers. They will be called “Peruvians whose stories shine.”
Silva also declared that the Cultural Program “Culturaymi” will be held in 38 days and will include 10 districts that could be part of the gastronomic fairs, workshops, concerts and different cultural shows. One million people are expected to participate in different activities.
The Italian company Balich will be in charge of the ceremonies, and “it will be an event never seen before, where the natural and cultural richness of Peru will be stressed,” he added. Tickets will be sold online and on site from May 27.
FULLY SECURE
Regarding the Lima 2019 security, Ingemar Narro, head of the Security Department, expressed that they will be supported by the Peruvian National Police and the Armed Forces, as well as private security hired by the organization. Security perimeters will be established around the venues and the routes where sports delegations will move around.
Regarding this issue, the Colonel Víctor Zanabria of the Ministry of the Interior said 20,630 police officers will be part of several security activities at the Games. 3000 of them will graduate in June from different Peruvian schools. 1786 police officers will be responsible for the transit, mainly in areas close to the venues. 150 motorcycles of Halcones police unit will be in charge of the Pan American lane. The Armed Forces will provide troops, 1200 of them will be on the marathon route and a similar number will be assigned to race walk competitions that will take place in Miraflores and its surroundings.
TRANSPORTATION
The transport area representative Álvaro Castro informed that the transport system will have exclusive lanes for athletes to be able to arrive at the venues. Services will be provided for more than 16,000 clients and as well as enhanced systems for athletes, the Games Family, accredited press, technical officials, among others. There will be 21 main and alternative routes, where buses allocated to the Games will transit.
Finally, María Acosta Torrelli of Promperú pointed out there will be two Casas Perú in Lima 2019, one in the Lima Convention Center and another in the Pan American Village to show the main tourist attractions. Additionally, six tourist circuits will be created in the country for visitors arriving to Lima.
The meeting was attended by congressmen Carlos Domínguez, Luciana León and Paloma Noceda, to whom the main progress was presented. The representatives of the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Housing, the Ministry of Foreign Commerce and Tourism, and Promperú were also present.
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games is a continental event that will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries, and opens on July 26 at the National Stadium. There will be 17 days of competitions which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao. Some of the main venues will be VIDENA, Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center, Callao Regional Sports Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 62 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 23 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 the Olympic Games.
The Parapan American Games will welcome 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, who will participate in 17 Para sports and 18 disciplines. Competitions will take place from August 23 to September 1, 2019. Additionally, 13 sports will be qualifiers for Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
