Lima and all of Peru are preparing to live the largest multi-sports event in the continent and will receive around 10,000 athletes and technical officials. Delegations from the Americas will be part of the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games, to be held in our country for the first time.
Therefore, Lima 2019 Organizing Committee, through its President, Carlos Neuhaus Tudela, presented a proposal to the Executive to declare Friday, July 26, starting at 12:00 hours and Saturday, July 27, non-working holidays.
“From Friday midday on, we have coordinated the issuance of the extended holiday decree. We will use this so people start leaving Lima from midday Friday until the holiday end on Tuesday, July 30,” said Carlos Neuhaus.
The Pan American Games opening ceremony is scheduled for the night of Friday July 26, where over 10 thousand accredited athletes and technical officials, 41 participating countries representatives as well as spectators will come together to celebrate this important event.
Athletes transportation will depart from Villa El Salvador (main accommodation center, the Pan American and Parapan American Village), Callao, San Isidro, Miraflores, Cañete, Lunahuana, Huacho and Paracas to National Stadium, in an unprecedented operation in the country.
By declaring midday July 26 as a holiday, employees will be able to rest until Tuesday 30 and they may enjoy different options outside Lima, such as visiting cities of Peru's provinces and ease the traffic in our city to facilitate transportation to the 39 venues in which the Pan American Games will take place.
Also, people could visit the venues to live the experience of the Games and watch the best representatives from the Americas compete. This initiative is joined by high school mid-year vacations that will start on July 31 to August 11. That’s why private schools are called upon to join this schedule set by the Ministry of Education. This will generate a traffic reduction of over 30% in the city.
