Today, almost five months before starting the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games, the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee presented for the first time a high-performance competition venue in Villa María del Triunfo. It is the new baseball stadium.
The Peruvian baseball team, main protagonist of the event, opened with a demonstration training for in the baseball field of the renewed Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center.
The new baseball stadium has a high-quality official competition field certified by the World Baseball and Softball Confederation (WBSC), with dressing rooms and grandstands with capacity for 1800 people.
This event gathered the Lima 2019 President, Carlos Neuhaus and the President of the Baseball Federation, Víctor Ramos, who signed up the official delivery certificate, accompanied by the Project and Infrastructure Manager, Wilhelm Funcke.
“We are showing that if we work at a professional level we can do something great. We have presented a world-class scenario, on time, so our team can train properly,” expressed Neuhaus.
“I am sure that sport will grow in Peru with all these venues. Sport is an investment, not an expense,” added.
Softball, water polo, rugby, hockey and archery competitions will also be held in this sports center during the Pan American Games; and football 5-a-side and football 7-a-side during the Parapan American Games. New fields for these sports in Villa María del Triunfo will remain as a legacy after the competitions for the whole district.
“We are really happy to host in our district the Pan American and Parapan American Games. After the international meeting, it will be important to have this sports center in our district to give an opportunity to young Peruvians and older adults to know and practice new disciplines," stated the Sports Commission President of Villa María del Triunfo municipality, Alonso Llachua.
“In addition, sport represents health and values, and keeps young people away from misdeeds that unfortunately prevail in several areas of Lima,” he expressed.
In that sense, this sports field, located in a popular district, represents not only a milestone to the Pan American and Parapan American Games, but it also shows the long-term investment in sports infrastructure made by the host country and the great legacy that the event will leave once the official competitions have been completed.
