The Lima 2019 Organizing Committee continues with its campaign “We all play, let’s play fair” as part of the anti-doping struggle, in order to promote the rules and values of the sports that will be included in the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
Boxers Juan and David “Panther” Zegarra also joined this campaign. They claimed the Universal Boxing Council (UCB) world titles in the welterweight and super middleweight class, respectively, at the Fortunato Marotta Coliseum in La Punta, Callao.
“Young athletes should never stop dreaming and must always play fair if they want to achieve their goals,” said David “Panther” Zegarra, super middleweight world champion.
“Peru got two world champions before Lima 2019 and that's great. I hope our victories are an example for everyone else and make people root for our young talents, who need all the support they can get. To all boxers, keep fighting and training hard,” he stressed.
“I’ll always support young athletes. They’ve just started, but I’m sure they’ll play in the big leagues someday. They’re the future and the Games are a huge opportunity for them,” said Juan Zegarra, current world champion in the welterweight class, who thanked the Organizing Committee for the legacy that Lima 2019 will leave. “I’m from Villa El Salvador, and I’ve seen the new infrastructure. It’s amazing because everything will remain for future athletes,” he added.
It is worth mentioning that Callao will be one of the Games venues, and all boxing competitions will be held at the Miguel Grau Coliseum. In this way, Lima 2019 continues to spread the Pan American and Parapan American Games, promoting integration, sport values and fair play.
On April 10, we celebrated the Play True Day to raise awareness about the fight against doping in sports. Therefore, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Panam Sports and Lima 2019 launched an anti-doping course for sport physicians (Physician’s Tool Kit) in Spanish for the first time. This training will provide an official WADA certification to the medical staff of the 41 participating delegations.
Moreover, the National Anti-doping Commission (CONAD) organized the anti-doping course “Road to Lima 2019”, so that the Peruvian delegation participating in the Games is well informed about the doping risks and learns how to prevent them.
