Lima 2019 is promoting the Pan American and Parapan American Games in various schools in Callao as part of the “Callao es Lima 2019” campaign. These sport events will start next July 26 and August 11, respectively.
In this context, an informative talk about the Lima 2019 values and also an sport exhibition led by the Peruvian handball men’s and women’s team were carried out in Néstor Gambetta Bonatti School.
Children could practice this sport and hang out with Milco, who is in charge of spreading and promoting the Lima 2019 Games by visiting various sport activities.
Camila Delgado, captain of the womens’ national team was really happy to share the sport with children at their schools. “I feel it was a nice experience teaching them handball and promoting the importance of sports in schools. Everybody was enthusiast and showed interest in participating and learning,” she said.
“Children’s joy is amazing to us,” added Johan Corpus from the men’s team. He also highlighted that “thanks to the Games, sports are being promoted little by little. This is a start for us and now we will create more chances to promote it. This will open many doors so sports would become more competitive”.
Angelo is 10 years old and, for the first time, he could learn how to play handball and he was amazed. “I really liked the sport. I was surprised how women defeated men. I hope like they could go to other schools so more children could learn about other sports,” he said.
Heddy Lleelish, principal of Néstor Gambetta School highlighted the importance of promoting other disciplines: “I think it’s very interesting that children practice other sports that will be part of the Pan American and Parapan American Games, especially because they were really happy to be able to participate.”
Lima 2019 continues visiting schools to promote sports values and raise people's expectations on the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games in partnership with the Regional Government of Callao through the “Callao es Lima 2019” campaign.
