We started in 2017 and this is the last one as we are already champions. Everyone here must be proud and inspired because of the work we’ve done, month after month, has blossomed," she said.
Sierralta also gave an opening speech on behalf of Lima 2019. “I've been working in sports for 25 years and what is happening now is a dream come true. Not only the infrastructure works but also the organizational structure of Peruvian sports is changing for Lima 2019: it is a revolution. And You’ll be part of it,” he said.
Arnáez Braschi, former Peruvian shooter, inspired us all to be the hosts of these Games. “These are my fifth Pan American Games but it's the first time that I won’t be participating as an athlete. I've been a Peruvian team member from 1997 to 2016. You will be exemplary persons in the days to come. Exemplary Peruvian representatives before the Americas and the world,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Peruvian Naval Officer, Francisco Montjoy, told a moving and hilarious life story, that ended encouraging teamwork. “I’m excited to be with you. Teamwork ensures success. Working as a team is just the beginning; staying as a team means progressing. Teamwork divides works but multiplies results. The year of hard work were worth it and you must be always proud of what you did.”
Closing words were given by Pun Chong, Walter Oyarce and Gina Parker. They all assured that hosting these Games involves also an individual opportunity for excellence, a chance that the Lima 2019 team should not miss.
“I congratulate each one of you for making a difference. We can all be heroes, we can do great things. So, let’s take this opportunity to make history. It’s exciting to be part of our country's history,” said the Peruvian 2018 CNN Hero.
“There are really committed people here and they have all gathered in this project. We have to dream and hope that these are going to be the best Pan American Games in history because they will be held in the best country in the world,” said Oyarce Delgado.
“Remember: everything happens for a reason, each one of us has a role and we must do it well. For me, commitment is the most important value. If you are here you must say "I’ll stay until the end" and proudly represent Peru” said Gina Parker.
