The world’s best badminton players will compete from June 20 to June 23 in Peru International 2019, which is a test event for the Pan American Games. This officially opens Sport Center 3 in VIDENA, built by Lima 2019 to host Badmiton, Table tennis and Artistic Roller Skating competitions.
The tournament is twelfth in the calendar of International Series of the Badminton World Federation, therefore we will welcome the best players from Brazil, Chile, Cuba, United States, Indonesia, Italy, Mexico, Germany, Argentina, Canada, Ecuador, Colombia, Guatemala, England, Jamaica and Peru.
This event awards points for the world ranking and it will take place in singles, doubles and mixed doubles. Among the stars we have Guatemalan Kevin Cordón- gold medalist in Toronto 2015 Pan American Games-, Cuban Osleni Guerrero- bronze medalist in Toronto 2015-, Mexican Lino Muñoz as well as Italian Fabio Caponio. In the women's we have American Disha Gupta and Brazilian Fabiana Silva.
The Peruvian team that will compete in Lima 2019 is composed by Daniela Macias, Danica Nishimura, Inés Castillo, Paula La Torre, Daniel La Torre, Diego Mini, José Guevara and Mario Cuba. Coincidently, this is the same team that reach the first place in the medal table at the Santa Marta 2017 Bolivarian Games with 10 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 3 bronze).
On Wednesday, there will be classifying matches starting at 4:00 pm, reaching the next stage which starts Thursday from 9:00 a.m. Tickets to attend this intercontinental tournament will be free of charge and these can be collected on the day of the competition on gate 2 in VIDENA, located in Avenida del Aire.
BADMINTON IN LIMA 2019
Badminton in the Pan American Games is scheduled to take place from July 29 to August 2 in Sport Center 3 in VIDENA. It will take place in singles, doubles (women’s and men's) as well as mixed doubles. Each match will have three sets, the winner will be the first one obtaining 21 points.
8 badminton players per country, equally distributed between male and female, will participate. In total there will be 88 players from 21 different countries competing in the classifying rounds until obtaining the gold medal on the last day of the competition. The bronze medal is granted to disqualified players in the semifinal stage.
