This recognition was given for making the National University of San Marcos Stadium available for the South American U-17 Football Championship, which was successfully carried out in this Lima 2019 venue.
Lima 2019, through its Executive Director Carlos Neuhaus Tudela, was recognized by the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) and the Peruvian Football Federation for its valuable contribution to the execution of the South American U-17 Football Championship, which ended tonight.
The president of CONMEBOL, Alejandro Domínguez, gave Carlos Neuhaus Tudela, Lima 2019 Executive Director, a commemorative plate and a medal. Alongside him were the head of the Peruvian Football Federation, Agustín Lozano, and his board of directors. Lima 2019 facilitated the tournament’s organization by delivering the University of San Marcos Stadium ahead of time so it could be the venue of the international event.
President of the National University of San Marcos, Orestes Cachay, was also recognized for lending this venue to CONMEBOL and the federation. The ceremony was held in the presidential box of the stadium.
Domínguez thanked Lima 2019 for their support, stating that the stadium meets all the conditions to host an international tournament like the South American U-17 Championship, which started on March 22. At the same time, Agustín Lozano said he was satisfied with the assistance provided by Lima 2019 authorities, who completed construction ahead of time to open the stadium. “We will always be grateful,” Lozano told Neuhaus at the end of the ceremony.
As a thank you, Lozano gave the Lima 2019 Executive Director an official T-shirt of the Peruvian national team and the federation flag. Wilhelm Funcke, Lima 2019 Project and Infrastructure Manager, also participated in the ceremony and received the same recognition.
After the conclusion of the South American Championship, the final finishes will be applied to the stadium so it can host the football competition of the Pan American Games, starting on July 28. Eight teams from the continent, both women’s and men’s, will participate in this competition.
