To determine the Pan American Games matches, Lima 2019 Organizing Committee scheduled for tomorrow at noon the groups draw and football competitions schedule drafting for men's and women’s categories to be held at San Marcos Stadium.
This draw will take place at the main auditorium of the Peruvian Football Federation, with the attendance of Carlos Neuhaus, Lima 2019 Executive Director; Hugo Figueredo, technical delegate designed by the CONMEBOL; as well as Peruvian football authorities and coaches for men's and women's teams; Nolberto Solano and Doriva Bueno, respectively.
For men's category, other participants, besides Peru, the host country, are Honduras, Mexico, Jamaica, Panama, Uruguay, Argentina and Ecuador. Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay, Panama, Jamaica, Costa Rica and Mexico will attend the ceremony for women's category.
This competition will gather the continent’s best representatives. One of the most expected teams is Uruguay, current Pan American champion that will compete with its best men's team, looking to get the gold one more time. Colombia, Argentina and Mexico will compete in women's category for the gold medal.
COMPETITION SYSTEM
The championship will have a lightning start with women's category, on July 28, with four matches starting at 10:00. Men's category starts also on July 28 with the first four matches from groups one and two. There will be a two-days rest period between sessions.
Pan American Games matches will be governed by the FIFA rules. During the first stage, three points will be awarded per victory and one point per tie. The top two teams each group advance to semifinals. Ties will be settled with 30 minutes extra-times. If scores are still tied, a penalty shootout will be played.
MODERN SCENARIO
The Stadium of the National University of San Marcos is part of a remodeling and improvement project. Infrastructure works started in May 2018 and finished before the established deadline, which was originally scheduled for March 31, 2019.
It has an official field of play surrounded by an eight-lanes athletics track, three fixed tribunes, a VIP box, a press zone, four changing rooms for athletes, a common area for athletes, as well as an exclusive entrance and exit for athletes’ buses. In addition, it has warehouses for sports equipment.
