As a matter of fact, poomsae is the contact sport discipline where Peru has a better chance of winning medals. The competitions of poomsae, a combination of defensive and offensive movements performed against an imaginary opponent, will take place at the Callao Sports Center.
A total of 31 athletes from Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Equator, United States and Peru will try to win the first gold medal of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. The Peruvian representatives are focused on reaching the traditional poomsae podium, whose medal ceremony will be held on Saturday, July 27, at 10:30.
Hugo del Castillo, who won the silver medal at the Santa Marta 2017 Bolivarian Games, is Peru’s main poomsae star. Two of his team members are Renzo Saux and José María Montejo. Besides, the first medal ceremony in the women’s category will be on the same day, and Marcela Castillo, two-time gold medalist at the Trujillo 2013 and Santa Marta 2017 Bolivarian Games, is a strong contender in this discipline. Among her team members is also Ariana Vera.

The medal ceremonies of bowling, figure skating, squash, marathon, weightlifting, shooting, artistic gymnastics, and canoe will be held on the same day.
TAEKWONDO AT LIMA 2019
For the Pan American Games, taekwondo competitions include men’s and women’s individuals, pairs, and freestyle teams. Six countries will take part in a single final round in men’s individuals; seven countries, in women’s individuals; six countries, in pairs; and six countries, in freestyle teams.
In this event, a gold medal, a silver medal, and two bronze medals (for the third and fourth place) will be awarded. The poomsae event will take place at the same time as kyorugi, taekwondo’s combat discipline. These combats will bring together top representatives from Brazil and Mexico, who stood out at the last World Taekwondo Championship held in Manchester, England.
ABOUT LIMA 2019
The Opening Ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games will be held at the National Stadium on July 26, 2019. This continental event will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries and delegations from the Americas.
There will be 17 days of competitions and ceremonies between July 26 and August 11, 2019, which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao. Some venues are the VIDENA, Villa María Sports Center, Callao Regional Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 22 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
