100 days before the Pan American Games, Lima 2019 launched tonight its official song in a concert that started the countdown to the opening of the most important multi-sport event of the continent.
In a live show, Pedro Suárez-Vértiz® La Banda performed the song composed and produced by the Peruvian rock singer which will distinguish the Games entitled “Jugamos Todos.”
A few days ago, Pedro Suárez-Vértiz announced in his social media that Guillermo Bussinger, vocalist of his band, would be the main singer. That is what happened on this magical night, while the song’s author’s daughter, Mariajosé, performed the vocal harmonies. Typical instruments such as the Peruvian cajón and Andean winds instruments as well as the zampoña were used to compose this song and represent the Peruvian identity.
The performance was part of a musical event in a crowded auditorium that waited for the Lima 2019 Official Song. Before that, a small ceremony was held in which the Lima 2019 executive director Carlos Neuhaus Tudela transmitted everybody’s excitement of the 100 days before the Games opening.
“Sport and culture unite people and that is why we are here in San Miguel, which will host Lima 2019 road cycling, BMX, speed skating, beach volleyball and skateboarding competitions. The Lima 2019 Games will start in 100 days and everything is good. We are going to welcome the best athletes in the Americas and I am sure that we will break the record of medals with our representatives.
“We are here to listen to the Lima 2019 song that will represent us. And it is an honor to have Pedro Suárez-Vértiz as a composer of the song considering all he has done for the music in our country. His song will be heard by 400 million people in the world and we are happy about that,” said Mr. Neuhaus Tudela.
The mayor of San Miguel Juan José Guevara said he was grateful that his district had been chosen as one of the Lima 2019 venues.“We are working to receive the Games. We are going to live the Pan American and Parapan American Games. But the most important thing is that these Games will leave us a great legacy to promote the sport. San Miguel is already in Games mode,” he said.
The president of the Peruvian Sports Institute Sebastián Suito and the mayor of Bellavista Daniel Malpartida, among others, also attended the ceremony. We then listened the song. Everybody recognized the emotion and commitment Pedro Suárez-Vértiz put in making it and they all saw his band playing the song with their heart. The event was held in Los Domos at San Miguel. That night we all remembered the songs by our beloved Pedro sung by Guillermo Bussinger, vocalist of his band.
Every sporting event needs a song that reflects the feeling of brotherhood among participating countries, and there is no better opportunity than do it a little over three months prior to the opening of the 2019 Pan American Games.
