MAYOR OF LIMA MEETS WITH MINISTER OF SPORTS OF CHILE AND THE PRESIDENT OF PANAM SPORTS

The mayor of Lima, Jorge Muñoz Wells, received today the Minister of Sports of Chile, Pauline Kantor, the president of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic and the President of Lima 2019, Carlos Neuhaus Tudela, in order to show international authorities how the organization of the Pan American and Parapan American Games coordinate activities with the community of Lima to successfully host the biggest sporting event of the continent in our country.

The mayor of Lima met with international sports delegations, who are in Peru to visit the venues under construction for the Lima 2019 Games. Santiago de Chile will be the next host city of the Games in 2023. For this reason, the Minister and other officials from Chile are here to see the work of Lima 2019 at first hand.

At the end of the meeting, Jorge Muñoz, expressed his total commitment to making sure the Games are a success. “We are committed to work with the organization of Lima 2019 in delivering the best Games possible”. I am impressed by the work done in the venues, which will be a legacy to the city. The pools in VIDENA are the clear example of the state-of-the-art venues. The same for the velodrome, anyone would want to use a bike there”, said the major of Lima.

“We are very excited, but we all have to work together to make the best Games ever. The executive authorities are committed to the organization of this sport event. It is an important undertaking to be the major of Lima during the Pan American and Parapan American Games, and the bicentennial. This is why we have to work to change and transform the city for the best”, said Muñoz.

Santiago will be the next host

The Ministry of Sport of Chile, Pauline Kantor, praised the work done by the organization of Lima 2019 towards the largest sport event in the continent. “It is very important for us to visit the infrastructure, see the progress, and see up close how they are preparing for the Games. It’s good for us because we go back with a lot of information”.

“The organizing committee welcomed us with open arms and this makes us better to share experiences. Sports don’t have borders. Sports empower people. We feel confident that Peru will organize a high-level sport event. We have to learn from your experiences and then do our part in Santiago”, said the Chilean minister.

Panam Sports applauds the commitment

On the other hand, Neven Ilic, Panam Sports President, gathering the countries participating in the Pan American Games, thanked the commitment of the mayor of Lima to the organization of this event and praised the new infrastructures built.

“We are grateful for the mayor’s reception. His support is fundamental. In general, we are very pleased with the organization. High quality and world-class infrastructure is built. They are fully complying with the task undertaken. This guarantees a top level event”.

“We applaud the sacrifice of the Organizing Committee and the Peruvian Government. They deserve a great celebration, like the one Lima will witness. Muñoz offered us all his help in terms of transport. I feel we are going in the right direction for July 26th (Pan American Games’ opening ceremony), mentioned Neven Ilic.

Team work

The President of Lima 2019, Carlos Neuhaus Tudela, highlighted the support of the mayor of Lima since his election. “We started working together since he was elected mayor. Lima will do a great job as a host of the Pan American and Parapan American Games. We have come a long way, and now our greatest dilemma is to deliver the best Games. We are working together because we know the challenges we face. It is intense work, but we will be good hosts”, said Neuhaus.
