While visiting the National Sports Village (VIDENA) as part of the “60 days to go until the Pan American Games” ceremony, the mayor of Lima, Jorge Muñoz Wells, toured the new stages that were built and remodeled in the main competition center of Lima 2019.
Alongside the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee president, Carlos Neuhaus, the Mayor entered the velodrome, which was remodeled and approved for cycling track and Para cycling track events. The Mayor bought the first ticket for the Parapan American Games, to assist to the Para cycling track events that will be carried out in this modern stage on August 30.
The velodrome has a track of 250 meters in perimeter. The track is made of African wood and due to the remodeling, it now has a ceiling that turns it into an indoor stage.
It has a capacity of 2 300 spectators in comfortable seats. The width of the track is seven meters. It has cambers (elevation in the curves) with a 42 degrees inclination. The velodrome has changing rooms and showers, a common area for athletes, a judges’ area, first aid stations for athletes and spectators, mixed zone for accredited journalists and anti-doping control.
Jorge Muñoz also visited the Aquatic Center where swimming, artistic swimming and diving will be carried out, as well as para swimming during the Parapan American Games. With this new center, Peru has a modern facility after 57 years since the opening of the Aquatic Center at Campo de Marte in 1962.
The Aquatic Center has a 50 meters long, 25 meters wide and 2 meters deep warm-up pool; a 50 meters long, 25 meters wide and 3 meters deep Olympic swimming pool; and a 21 meters long, 25 meters wide and 5,5 meters deep diving pool.
The Aquatic Center is one of the three stages that Lima 2019 built at VIDENA. It has changing rooms and showers, a common area for athletes, a judges’ area, first aid stations for athletes and spectators, mixed zone for accredited journalists and anti-doping control. It has been entirely certified by the International Swimming Federation (FINA).
Before leaving, Mayor Jorge Muñoz visited the Sports Center 3, one of the venues in VIDENA that was built from scratch for the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games. It was in this venue that a badminton international championship was held to test the facilities for this sport's competitions during the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. In addition to badminton, this facility will be the venue for artistic skating and table tennis during the Pan American Games, and Para badminton and Para tennis during the Parapan American Games.
