In each of the 20 medals earned by our determined Para athletes, who participated in the Abu Dabi Special Olympics World Games, there is more than one story of personal triumph. Upon arrival at VIDENA, these champions received the best reward for their effort: Milcos’ warm greeting.
The Pan American and Parapan American Games mascot raised more than one spontaneous laugh among this group of people, who smile to life and stand out in special sports despite their impairments. Milco shared with them the spirit of Lima 2019 in a moment they will treasure forever. They received a photo with the mascot and gifts by the organization.
The national team participated in disciplines such as unified volleyball, athletics, swimming and rhythmic gymnastics; and was awarded a total of 6 gold, 9 silver and 5 bronze medals, as well as other 22 recognition ribbons that the World Games awards based on merit, even though the athletes did not reach the podium. Undoubtedly, a very valuable work.
Karina Mondragón, member of the volleyball team that defeated Russia when competing for gold, was eager to meet Milco. She did not hide her wish to participate in the Parapan American Games. “We proved that Peruvians are prepared to rise to the top. It would be a dream come true to participate in Lima 2019,” said the Peruvian champion.
