One of the main cities of the country, Moquegua, is getting ready to celebrate the Pan American Games with the arrival of the Pan American Torch, whose tour started this Thursday, July 4, in Cuzco.
There are 72 torchbearers in total, between athletes and citizens that were nominated as “Peruvians whose stories shine” to carry the torch through the main streets of the home city of the president of Peru, Martín Vizcarra.
The torch will arrive from Puno, where it will spend the night, and then it will continue its journey through the cities of Titire, Cuéllar and Samegua before arriving in Moquegua. In Moquegua, torchbearers will cover a total of 12.6 km through streets and avenues.
The torch’s journey in this city will start at the 25 de Noviembre stadium and make its way to the Plaza de Armas, the Catedral de Moquegua and then to the Cristo Blanco, which is an elevated lookout point for tourists visiting the city. The journey of the torch will end at the Municipal coliseum, where there will be a ceremony for the symbolic lighting of the Pan American Cauldron at night.
The Pan American Torch will continue its route to Arequipa on Sunday, July 7, after spending one night in Moquegua, visiting the town of Mejía on its way to the White City. Moquegua is the fourth city to be visited by the torch after it started its journey in Cuzco and then visited the cities of Juliaca and Puno. The Pan American Torch will cover more than 6500 km in 23 days, through 26 Peruvian cities, before its arrival in Lima on July 26.

The Opening Ceremony of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games will be held at the National Stadium on July 26, 2019. This continental event will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries and delegations from the Americas.
There will be 17 days of competitions and ceremonies, between July 26 and August 11, which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao at various venues like VIDENA, Villa María Sports Center, Callao Regional Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 22 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 the Olympic Games.
