A recent market study by the renowned market research and consulting firm Ipsos revealed that 90% of respondents considered the Pan American and Parapan American Games very favorable and favorable for Peru. This figure has risen by 10% in relation to the last study conducted on May 24 and 25.
Likewise, 88% approves of the organization carried out by the Committee led by Carlos Neuhaus to welcome about 10,000 athletes and technical officials in the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
Lima residents believe that the Games will attract tourism and encourage sports because it is an opportunity for Peruvian athletes. The Games are also seen as an opportunity to make Peru well-known and to boost economic activity.
Regarding the perception of the benefits that the Games will bring to Lima, the most valued aspects were the opportunity for Peruvian athletes to compete in high-level sports events, tourist attraction, increased economic activity, a positive image for the country, job creation, the improvement of roads, lanes and streets, and the construction of sports infrastructure.
The survey also highlighted people's awareness of the organization of the Pan American and Parapan American Games, which has increased from 84 to 87% in the last month. This is reflected in the purchase of the tickets for the Pan American Games opening ceremony and sports competitions final rounds, for which over 120,000 tickets have been sold.
According to the survey, 83% also said that they like the Lima 2019 official mascot, while 42% said that they know or have seen Milco at some point.
Regarding the sports competitions in Lima 2019, respondents claimed to know four sports: athletics, football, volleyball, and swimming, which can be enjoyed in our country next July. Behind them, basketball and martial arts are also known.
ATTENDING COMPETITIONS
A large percentage of citizens of Lima said they will probably attend some event from both the Pan American and the Parapan American Games. Most people will do it to support Peruvian athletes in sports such as athletics, football, or volleyball.
Three out of five people said they will probably attend the Pan American Games. The majority of these people said they would go with their families.
Among the reasons for attending the Games, 66% said they would go to support Peruvian athletes. This percentage has increased since last May, from 59 to 66%. A total of 44% would go because it is the first time such a large sports event has been held in Peru and 41% because it is an excellent opportunity to spend time with family and friends. Also, 34% said they would go to visit the new sports infrastructure and 29% because they want to meet the best athletes from the Americas.
Athletics is the most popular sport among respondents who will attend the Games, with 52%. It exceeded football and swimming, which recorded 35% each. Volleyball attracts the attention of 29% of those surveyed.
LEGACY
Nearly the entire population surveyed believes that the Lima 2019 Games will have a positive impact because they will promote sports and boost opportunities for people with an impairment. They think that this is a good chance to show that we can be excellent hosts and give a good impression of Lima and its population. Most respondents are optimistic and believe that our athletes will do well in the competitions.
Three out of five people in Lima believe that, at the end of the Lima 2019 Games, there will be more opportunities for children and young people to do sports. Also, two out of five believe that the city will have better sports infrastructure.
Almost the entire population of Lima has a favorable opinion about the legacy left by the Lima 2019 Games, mainly the promotion of sport and better opportunities for people with an impairment.
Regarding the participation of Peruvian athletes, the citizens of Lima are enthusiastic about the performance of our representatives in the Lima 2019 Games. 76% believe that Peruvians will do well and very well in this international competition.
Nearly half of the population believes that local athletes will do well in competitions, while one out of three Peruvians also believes that they will do very well.
