The caravan carrying the celebration from relay to relay across Peru before the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, made an unusual stop during its journey from Bagua Grande to Piura.
Twenty students of Alfonso Villanueva Pinillos School in Pucará, Cajamarca, with the complicity of their teachers and principal, make a break in their classes and go to the Av. Belaúnde Terry Km 117, and wait for the Flame. With enough luck, they were hoping to make it stop for a while to be part of this celebration.
And they made it. Exactly at 10:30 on Thursday, July 18, the torch caravan passed right where they were waiting. They had a few minutes to take photos with the torch and the crew who carries the Flame across Peru. The photos are now in a school wall. “I allowed the interruption of classes because I want the children to have national identity. This celebration helps us build that identity. The Pan American Flame encourages us to learn more and love more Peru,” said James Cubas Vásquez, principal of Alfonso Villanueva Pinillos school.
