The torch relay route will cover approximately 5.5 kilometers and there will be 28 torchbearers, who will continue with the historical relay of the Flame that lights us all for the first time in Peru. Two outstanding figures from Ayacucho will participate. One is Rogger Villegas Cayllahua, the first Peruvian ever admitted to the best gastronomy school in the world, Ècole Ferrières (Paris-France), at the age of 22; the other is Ramón Castilla Huayhuas, a well-known artist, recognized for his work in sacred (religious) music. Castilla has been director of the Music School on several occasions. He now works as director of the “Caballeros de Semana Santa” Men's Choir, and has had the honor of directing the Choir that performed for Pope John Paul II on the two occasions he visited Ayacucho. The relay will start on Vía Los Libertadores, located at the entry of the city, and will end at the Main Square of Ayacucho.
The Flame, which comes from the city of Teotihuacán in Mexico, arrived in the city of Cusco last July 4; it is expected to reach cities such as Tarapoto, Piura, Huánuco, among others, until its triumphal arrival in Lima for the Pan American Games Opening Ceremony.
