Renowned national Para athletes Carlos Felipa, Dunia Felices, Lima 2019 Ambassador, Luis Miguel Sandoval and Jesús Castillo had outstanding performances in the Open International Loterias Caixa, which has been held in Sao Paulo and is part of their preparation for the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games.
Dunia Felices was awarded the silver medal in 100 m freestyle. Luis Miguel Sandoval, Para athlete who competed in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, won gold in 5,000 m, while Jesús Castillo obtained the second place in 200 m, beating José Luis Casas, who finished third.
Carlos Felipa is one of the Para athletes who has had the best performances so far. He reached 10.96 m in the shot put event, setting a new national record and the best one in the Americas.
Through its National Paralympic Association led by Lucha Villar, Peru has sent a large delegation to Sao Paulo so that the Para athletes and Para swimmers can not only show their own progress but also look for better records to ensure their classification to Lima 2019.
The Parapan American Games will be held between August 23 and September 1, with the participation of 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, who will compete in 17 sports.
