PERU NOMINATES BEST SIX TENNIS PLAYERS TO COMPETE IN PAN AMERICAN GAMES

Juan Pablo Varillas, Nicolás Álvarez, Sergio Galdós, Dominique Schaefer, Anastasia Iamachkine, and Dana Guzmán will represent Peru in tennis at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, as officially announced by the Peruvian Tennis Federation.

The six athletes were nominated according to their places in the world ranking and their results in international events, and confirmed by the two captains, Américo “Tupi” Venero and Laura Arraya, in men’s and women’s tennis, respectively.

The choice of singles and doubles pairs will be announced in the upcoming days.

Tennis is one of the 39 sports in competition during the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, starting on July 26. Winners in singles and doubles (men’s and women’s), as well as in mixed doubles, will gain direct qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The competitions will be played in a knock-out format. All singles matches will be best of three sets with tiebreak; while all doubles matches will be two sets with tiebreak. If a tie exists, the third set will be decided by a 10-point match tiebreaker. All matches will be played using the no-ad scoring system.
