PERUVIAN NATIONAL POLICE HOLDS THE FIRST TEST OF THE LIMA 2019 LANE WITH SUCCESS

The Lima 2019 Organizing Committee alongside the Peruvian National Police carried out successfully the first test of the Lima 2019 Lane, according to the Route Plan that will guarantee that the Games competitions and ceremonies take place according to planned schedules and minimize the impact on the population.

The operation in which participated members of the Transit, Transport, and Road Safety Department of the Peruvian National Police (PNP), as well as of the State Security Department, began at 04:00 to delimit an exclusive lane, in both directions of the Panamericana Sur, from the Pan American Village and Parapan American Village in Villa El Salvador, main accommodation venue for the Lima 2019 Games, to the National Sports Village (VIDENA), which will be the main competition venue of this international event.

The results have been effective to assess this first test of the Lima 2019 Lane, that will be operational during the Games. General Jorge Lam, director of the transit department of the PNP, said that it was a good test for what is coming in July.

"The road was delimited between the Pan American and Parapan American Village and VIDENA, totaling 20 kilometers. It is a high traffic road (Panamericana Sur) but it is a test for the population to know what is going to happen during the Games. The road will be segregated for 24 hours during the Games. As for the other segregated routes, the segregation will be for the time strictly necessary as planned."

"This is the main route from the Pan American and Parapan American Village to VIDENA and this first balance gives us positive results. The drivers have respected the road, some wanted to enter, but the Police were attentive and some drivers were sanctioned. Everyone must respect the segregation, the inspection will be permanent and traffic tickets will be applied. This will start on the second half of July and will last until the end of the Games.

"We want drivers to respect and use alternative routes. We are going to provide full security for tourists and citizens. We want everyone to join the Games because they are the country's image. We must show the world that Peru is ready to organize important events," said General Lam.

Meanwhile, PNP General José Manuel Pozo, director of the State Security Department, stressed that the first test was crucial to draw conclusions. "This will be an exclusive route to arrive on time. We work in cooperation with the different police departments. Our police agents will escort and protect the delegations traveling buses to keep them safe," he said.

Álvaro Castro, head of Lima 2019 transport department, said that "the Organizing Committee must provide an Olympic-class service for the delegations that will come for the Games. We will receive more than 8000 athletes and we must show our best behavior. We request citizens and drivers to respect exclusive lanes. We must transport athletes to their venues in less than 45 minutes. There will be 21 routes and this is the first test. Roads will be segregted to arrive on time, Let’s All Play," he concluded.

THE FIRST LANE TEST

The Transit, Transport, and Road Safety Department of the Peruvian National Police held “the first test of the Lima 2019 lane”, on the roads where the official vehicles will transport over 8000 athletes, judges, referees, accredited press, volunteers and the Games official committee.

The transit was restricted from 04:00 to 09:00 in the left lane of the route that goes from the Pan American and Parapan American Village in Villa El Salvador - accommodation venue for athletes and technical officials from 41 countries - to the National Sports Village (VIDENA) in San Luis. Athletics, swimming, bowling, table tennis, badminton, judo, artistic roller skating, handball, squash, and track cycling will be held at the VIDENA.

Traffic restriction will be carried out in both ways in the following avenues:

-Av. Mariano Pastor Sevilla, from Av. El Sol to Mateo Pumacahua.

-Av. Mateo Pumacahua, from Av. Mariano Pastor Sevilla to Autopista Panamericana Sur.

-Autopista Panamericana Sur, from Mateo Pumacahua to Av. Circunvalación.

-Av. Circunvalación, from Panamericana Sur to Av. Canadá.

-Av. Canada, from Circunvalación to Aviación.

In order to avoid traffic, the Peruvian National Police recommends to use the following alternative routes in both ways: From Av. Pedro Miotta to Mall del Sur. From Puente Atocongo to Av. Caminos del Inca. - All Av. San Luis to Av. Aviación.

Lima will be the Americas capital of sports and we must show that we are good hosts by respecting the Lima 2019 lane and the detour plan.

The National Peruvian Police and the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games Organizing Committee will continue to inform about this plan and the established routes for the Games, that will take place from July 26 to September 1.
