Shooting is the sport that has given Peru the most victories. So, it deserved a high-level venue as the new Shooting Range at Las Palmas Air Base that was delivered this morning. Thus, the Peruvian team that is getting ready for the Pan American Games began its training at the venue that will bring together the top 256 shooters in the Americas. They will be competing for a quota place at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The ceremony was attended by Carlos Neuhaus, president of the Organizing Committee of the Pan American and Parapan American Games; Rodolfo García Esquerre, general commander of the Peruvian Air Force; Wilhelm Funcke, Lima 2019 project and infrastructure manager; and Francisco Boza, president of the Peruvian Shooting Federation.
“I feel so relieved because the Organizing Committee has delivered an excellent venue, which is a milestone in this sport that has given us so much joy in the most important sporting events in the world. We’re satisfied because all the works for our athletes are already done,” said Neuhaus.
The three competition ranges will have stands with capacity for 1000 people and will remain as part of the sports legacy for the shooting promotion and practice. The competition venue includes: changing rooms, rest rooms for athletes and judges, a mixed zone for accredited people, doping control facilities, offices for the authorities, and offices of appeals.
“For the members of our sport community, it’s a dream come true that started in 1995 thanks to the support of the FAP. This range is at the height of any world-class venue and is a recognition to all the victories this sport has given to our country. We want to thank COPAL because this project started in January and is now ready for our athletes. Together we can continue to achieve great deeds for shooting,” stated “Pancho” Boza.
Shooting at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games includes 12 individual competitions, divided into six for men and six for women; and three mixed pairs competitions. Competitions will be held in precision (pistol and rifle) and shotgun (skeet and trap), between July 27 and August 3.
LIMA 2019 STARS
Peru presented its list, in which Alessandro De Souza and Nicolás Pacheco stood out in shotgun. De Souza has already qualified for Tokyo 2020 in the trap category, after winning the Shooting Championships of the Americas, held last year in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Marko Carrillo, who placed among the top 20 of the ISSF world ranking, will represent Peru in the air pistol event and precision pistol event. Also, Cristian Morales and Daniel Vizcarra will participate in the air rifle event and the 3x40 rifle event.
“I arrived last night after participating in an international tournament in Italy, and this infrastructure is just as good as that one. I started my career in shooting in this Range, and it has changed a lot. We’re all (athletes) very happy,” said Nicolás Pacheco.
