A Supreme Decree issued by the Peruvian Executive declared July 26 and 27 holidays for public and private workers, on the occasion of the start of the Pan American and Parapan American Games to be held in Lima.
The non-working hours on July 26 will be from 12:00 to 23:59; while July 27 was declared an official holiday. Both days are subject to compensation.
It is worth mentioning that these actions were taken to ensure the security of the visitors during the event as the city of Lima will be welcome sport delegations from different countries.
As we all know the Opening Ceremony of the Pan American and Parapan American Games will be held on July 26 at the National Stadium and will feature more than a thousand artists, including dancers, acrobats and musicians. Additionally, the event will have renowned guests such as the Peruvian opera singer Juan Diego Flórez and the singer Luis Fonsi.
To kick off the competitions, the marathon event will take place the next day, on July 27, where the best 36 marathon runners in the Americas will compete for the gold. The route will take the runners around the streets of the Miraflores, San Isidro, Lince and Lima districts. The starting and finish line will be at Parque Kennedy in Miraflores.
The Pan American Games will gather over 6680 athletes from 41 countries from July 26 to August 11. They will take part in 38 sports disciplines, from which 22 are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The Parapan American Games will gather 1890 Para athletes from 33 countries, participating in 17 sports and 18 disciplines. Competitions will take place from August 23 to September 1, 2019. Thirteen Para sports will be qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Considerations
As per Supreme Decree, the non-working hours must be repaid over the next 15 days or within the period established by the head of each public institution according to their needs.
The work compensation format in both private and public sectors shall be agreed by the employer and their workers.
Key activities that may prevent the immediate resumption of the activities of a public or private company or body, or whose suspension may endanger people or jeopardize the security or preservation of goods, are excluded from the holidays declared by Supreme Decree.
Moreover, in order to ensure the provision of health care, cleaning, electricity, water, sewage and gas services, companies in the public and private sectors have the right to determine which job positions are excluded from the holidays declared by Supreme Decree.
