Villa El Salvador Sports Center is one important legacy for sports development, and people living in the south of Lima will enjoy this after the largest multisport event in the Americas. This venue will house gymnastics and karate during the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, as well as boccia and wheelchair rugby during the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games
The sports center is located between Pastor Sevilla and 1ero de Mayo. The work progress in structures is 58% to date (including engineering, procurement and construction), in accordance with the established deadlines, so this infrastructure project will become an important venue for the Lima 2019 Games.
It includes two structures; the main one is made of concrete and metal structures and has four grandstand areas for more than 5 thousand people, accessible areas for people with impairments, as well as public toilets with the same characteristics and changing rooms for athletes during the competition.
The second structure is basically a metallic structure and it will be used as a warm-up facility before competitions of the aforementioned sports. Likewise, it should be noted that both construction works are separate and may be carried out simultaneously.
The main structures and beams that will support the roof of the main sports center will be finished in the following days. Additionally, the warm-up fields will be built in the designated area, and they will start the placement of the floor, finishing works and the provision of equipment at the venues.
It should be noted that important milestones has been achieved so far in terms construction before the project’s final delivery, which is scheduled for May, two months before the start of the Pan American Games.
The construction of the sports center in this district and in Lima helps to promote sports activities for children, young people and adults, who will be able to access the facilities and take part in physical activities.
