PRESS RELEASE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC

The Special Project for the Planning and Development of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games and Parapan American Games, with regards to the letter published by the General Comptroller of the Republic of Peru, where it suggests that the works in Punta Rocas and Callao are delayed, complies to inform to the general public the following:

Lima 2019 denies any type of delay in the execution of the projects located in Punta Rocas and Callao.

In terms of the remarks about Callao venue, Lima 2019 indicates that it has not agree to key date No 8 on October 15, but on October 19, as it was informed to the Comptroller in compliance with Minutes dated October 22, 2018.

The press release from the Comptroller contains an error by inferring that the construction of the corbel (support base) of the metallic structure was part of key date No. 8, because it is part of the roof, and its construction was schedule within key date No. 10.

Regarding the project in Punta Rocas, it is important to mention that it is a High-performance Center for surfing which has 5 components, and the complete project will be a legacy for the athletes.

It is worth highlighting that the competition zone for surfing is the ocean, and the waves guarantee the success of this competition. The two (2) required components (Judges tower and stands) needed for the Games will be finished by April 2019. Peru was the world champion in Punta Rocas in 2014 and it was the Pan American champion in 2017 and 2018.

Lima 2019 is within the legal time frame to solve any situation reported by the Comptroller with the corresponding technical reports.

Lima 2019 is getting ready to organize the most important multi-sport event in the Americas; and the second most important event in the world after the Olympic Games. The largest projects undertaken by Lima 2019 are the Athletes’ Village, Villa María del Triunfo, Videna, Callao and Villa El Salvador Sports Center, which are under construction and 95% of the works will be ready by March 2019.
