The San Marcos Stadium, delivered by Lima 2019 for the U17 CONMEBOL, will host the second friendly match of the women’s football team against Colombia to be held on April 7. These teams will face each other two days before at the VIDENA and both matches will be strictly private.
Last week the 28 players selected by the Brazilian trainer Doriva Bueno started their seventh training micro-cycle that will finish after the two matches vs. Colombia, who will also participate in Lima 2019. The aim is to obtain the best competition level ahead of the Pan American Games.
It will be the first time the Peruvian women’s team takes part in this type of multi-disciplinary competitions. Therefore, they have been training hard to achieve their initial goal and make it to the group stage. Among the team players will be midfielder Cindy Novoa from the Universitario club, as well as goal scorer Pierina Núñez and Nahomí Martínez from Sporting Cristal.
Argentina, Paraguay, United States, Jamaica, Panama and Costa Rica will also compete at this Pan American event, which will take place from July 28 to August 9 at the San Marcos Stadium. There will be two groups of four teams, and the winners of each series will pass to the semi-finals. In the last stage, the two winners will compete for the gold.
ABOUT THE VENUE
The San Marcos Stadium was the second infrastructure project built by the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee and was delivered on March 13. Right now, this venue with first-class turf will house the U17 South American Confederation Championship, scheduled to close on April 14. The “Coloso” was remodeled almost entirely by Lima 2019.
Three grandstands, with a capacity for 22 thousand spectators, were installed in the venue and were tested at the youth championship. Moreover, the field is surrounded by an eight-lane athletics track, four changing rooms, a press zone and a VIP box for authorities and guests of honor.
