After winning the second place of the Copa America in Brazil, Ricardo Gareca focuses now on the participation of the U-22 team in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. He said that all his coaching staff will be at Stadium of the National University of San Marcos to support the work of the coach Nolberto Solano.
Solano is Gareca's assistant since he assumed his position in the Peruvian Football Federation. This is the first time Solano is in charge of the national team. His first objective is to pass the competition's first stage (where the team will face Uruguay, Jamaica and Honduras)to have a chance for a place in the podium. After all, Solano’s football tactics are similar to Gareca's mentality.
In a message disclosed by Panam Sport, Gareca encouraged fans to follow Peruvian athletes in all venues: “The Pan American Games are going to be held in Lima and I hope we can all support Peruvian sport and that the Games are a success. In addition, Gareca said that any player standing out at the Pan American Games would have a chance to be called to the senior's team in the next competitions. FOOTBALL COMPETITIONS IN LIMA 2019
Men’s football events start on July 29 with the Group A matches: Panama vs. Mexico (10:00) and Ecuador vs. Argentina (13:00 ). In the second session, the Group B opens with the match between Jamaica vs. Honduras (17:30) and closes with Peru against the current Pan American champion, Uruguay (20:30)
The Pan American Games football competition will be governed by the FIFA rules. During the first stage, three points will be awarded per victory and one point per tie. The top two teams of each group advance to semifinals. Ties will be settled with 30 minutes extra-times. If scores are still tied, a penalty shootout will be played.
