RUGBY CALENDAR AT THE LIMA 2019 PAN AMERICAN GAMES

The world's three top teams in the men's rugby and the Americas' three of the best teams in women's rugby will arrive in the district of Villa María del Triunfo. Peru will be represented by the “Tumis” after finishing fourth in the South American Championship, which raised expectation of fans for Lima 2019.

In Group B, Peru will play against the current Pan American champion Canada, the current South American champion Brazil, and Mexico. Meanwhile, USA, Colombia, Argentina, and Trinidad and Tobago are part of Group A. In men’s, USA, Brazil, Chile, and Guyana will compete in the Group A, and Argentina, the two-time Pan American champion Canada, Jamaica, and Uruguay are part of the Group B.

United States, Argentina, and Canada will arrive with professional athletes who will fight for the gold in men’s rugby at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The Argentinian team 'Los Pumas' will play with the same team that qualified a week ago, including Gastón Revol, Santiago Mare, and Máximo Provenzano who shine in the URBA (Buenos Aires Rugby Union) and the Unión Cordobesa tournaments.

The quarterfinals, the semifinals, and the bronze-medal and gold-medal matches will be held on July 28 in two sessions. More than half of the tickets have been sold at the ten authorized Teleticket centers throughout the city and through the website www.lima2019.pe/tickets.

RUGBY AT LIMA 2019 

The rugby competitions will be held on July 26, 27 and 28. Two groups of four teams each will participate in men’s and women’s. Then, they will compete in quarterfinals, and the four best teams will advance to semifinals. On the last day, the best two teams will compete for the gold medal.  

As opposed to rugby union (15 players), this version is played in two halves of 7 minutes, with a break of 2 minutes. If scores are level at full time, a sudden-death extra time will be played in 5-minute periods. Therefore, the competition will only last three days, and each team will compete in two matches per day.
