SAN MARCOS STADIUM WILL RECEIVE THE BEST FOOTBALL PLAYERS IN THE LIMA 2019 PANAMERICAN GAMES

The Stadium of the National University of San Marcos, competition venue for men's and women's football, will be on the spotlight as the future stars of elite football will be there for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.

All fans of the Americas will have the opportunity to watch the skills and talents of the players that will become new football ‘stars’.  Nonetheless, they have to pass a critical test first: Qualify for the Lima 2019 Games through Chile 2019 South American U-20 Championship.

This championship starts on Thursday 17, and ends on February 10. The national teams of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, and Peru (already qualified to Lima 2019, being the host), Uruguay and Venezuela, will compete to obtain one of the three places at stake.

Young talents

As the host, Peru secured the presence of the talented midfielder Marcos Lopez, who plays for San Jose Earthquakes of United States, after winning the Peruvian local championship with Sporting Cristal. It is a different situation for Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela teams, who will have to fight their way through the final stages of Chile 2019 South American U-20 Championship to qualify. The champion, second and third place from the South American U-20 will come to Lima 2019 Games.

Among the talents coming to Peru to play at the Pan American Games, Leo Balerdi (Borussia Dortmund, BVB, Germany) from Argentina, the Brazilians Rodrygo Goes and Lincoln (Santos FC and Flamengo, Brazil), Marcelo Allende (Necaxa, Mexico) from Mexico, Santiago Irala and Diego Huesca (Porto FC, Portugal and Valencia, Spain) from Paraguay,  Franco Israel and Nicolas Schiappacasse (Juventus, Italy and  Atletico Madrid, Spain) from Uruguay, and Christian Makoun and Enrique Peña (Juventus FC from Italia and Borussia Dortmund, BVB, from Germany).

Work Progress in San Marcos Stadium

Meanwhile, remodeling works are flowing quickly at the venue that will hold men's and women's football competitions. At the San Marcos Stadium, the installation of Level 1 synthetic grass on the football field, certified by FIFA, is still underway, to comply with standards of international authorities for world class sport competitions.

The installation of asphalt on the athletics track circling the football field has also started. Also, the new dressing rooms, meeting international standards, are on their final stage

Additionally, remodeling of the stadium's access to be accessible  is being made. The mixed zone for press is also being built. Spaces for anti-doping control will be implemented.  San Marcos Stadium will have artificial lighting for matches games during night time. The west grand stand will have a roof to host authorities.

The venue will meet FIFA standards. It will be a legacy for students of the university and a place for professional sport competitions.
