The National Water Ski Championship was successfully carried out in the Laguna de Bujama, Cañete, granting the open category score for the classification and election of the Peruvian team for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
During two days of competitions (Saturday 12 and Sunday 13), Slalom, tricks and jumps were also performed, which will also be part of the biggest sports event in the Americas.
The most outstanding athletes were: María Alejandra de Osma, Lima 2019 Ambassador, Natalia Cuglievan, winner of gold medal in Toronto 2015 in the Water Ski Tricks, Rafael de Osma, Felipe Franco and Andrea Tejada.
The results obtained in this championship will be added to the final scores of the second national championship next March. The total score will define the four main athletes and two substitute athletes that will be part of the Peruvian team.
RESULTS
In Women's category, Maria Alejandra De Osma, Lima 2019 Ambassador, won the gold medal in Slalom, Jumps and Overall and silver in Water Ski Tricks.
Natalia Cuglievan, medalist of Toronto 2015 won the gold medal in Water Ski Tricks. Andrea Tejada also won medals and got the silver medal in Slalom and jumps.
In men's category, Rafael De Osma got the gold medal in Slalom, Jumps and Overall. De Osma also won the silver medal in tricks. Finally, Felipe Franco had an excellent performance winning the gold medal in Tricks.
It is worthing mentioning that during the national championship of Water Ski, the categories U14, U17 men and U21 women.
GAMES VENUE
The Laguna de Bujama, located in Cañete, southern province of Lima, is considered as one of the best five scenarios worldwide to practice Water Ski. For the Pan American Games, this sport will host the best representatives of the Americas.
Meanwhile, the Laguna de Bujama was also chosen as the host for Open Water (Swimming), due to its ideal temperature for competitions.
CLASSES
Slalom: Slalom category consists of reaching and overcoming six buoys laying over the road, using the athlete’s body extent, performing the highest physical effort and stunts, while the athlete is towed away by a vessel and a rope that is shortened.
Tricks: Tricks category consists of performing the highest number of tricks during 20 seconds within two turns, using hands and feet to obtain the highest score, meanwhile the athlete is towed away by a vessel and a rope.
Jumps: This category consists of sliding on a ramp and try to reach the farthest distance, meanwhile the athlete is towed away by a vessel and a rope.
