In order to train all the people registered in the Lima 2019 Volunteer Program, the training workshops started again this weekend in Lima and for the first time in Ica and Cajamarca. Approximately 2000 attendees are expected; all of them interested in volunteering during the Lima 2019 Pan American and Parapan American Games.
The program aims to provide volunteers the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully perform their role in the Games and contribute to create the social legacy. The training will be carried out with the support of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
This process will involve 40,000 applicants and includes 20 hours lessons between face-to-face and virtual sessions. The first general training will be for applicants in the following Peruvian cities: Lima, Callao, Chiclayo, Trujillo, Cajamarca, Huancayo, Tacna, Arequipa, Cusco, Tarapoto, Ica, Cañete and Pisco, according to the schedule published at www.lima2019.pe/voluntariado.
To participate in the training, people must register in the Volunteer Portal at www.lima2019.pe/voluntariado/inscripciones, complete the application form and select their training venue.
Training in Lima, Ica and Cajamarca
The Volunteer Training Program will start again in Lima, Ica and Cajamarca. Around 2000 people are expected to be trained this weekend.
On Sunday 20, the training session will take place at the Universidad Tecnológica del Perú in Villa El Salvador, Lima (located in Carretera Panamericana Sur Km 16).
Additionally, on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 training sessions will be held at the Universidad Nacional de Cajamarca (located in UNC - Avenida Atahualpa Km 3) in Cajamarca and at the Universidad Nacional San Luis Gonzaga (UNICA), located in Calle Huánuco 218, in Ica. It is worth mentioning that Paracas (Ica) will host some competitions during the Lima 2019 Games.
The training will take place in two shifts: from 8:00 to 12:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00. Participants must arrive one hour before the start of the session and show their ID in order to sign in and participate in the training course.
Training
Throughout 2018 the Volunteer Program has delivered 48 lesson hours to 7504 people in Lima, Cusco, Arequipa, Chiclayo, Trujillo, Tarapoto, Cañete, Pisco and Huancayo. The next step is on-line training.
As for foreign volunteers, so far there are 5377 applicants and 645 have already been interviewed. Around 1152 interviews will be held by March 2019.
Partnerships with Cajamarca and Ica
Actions have been taken to promote the Lima 2019 Volunteer Program and to find alternatives for the volunteer mobilization in Cajamarca, Ica and their surroundings. Therefore, and to strengthen strategic partnerships, meetings with representatives of the Municipality of Cajamarca, the Centro Comercial Shopping Quinde, the Municipality of Ica and the Centro de Idiomas Peruano Canadiense took place in Cajamarca.
Registration for the Volunteer Program is Still Open!
The registration period for the Volunteer Program has been extended until February 22 to benefit more people. To become a volunteer, you must be over 16 years old by April 1, 2019; be available at least 8 days (not necessarily consecutive days); and be friendly, proactive and a team player. Minors need their parents’ permission and must complete all the mandatory fields of the Volunteer Portal form at https://www.lima2019.pe/es/voluntariado/inscripciones.

Lima 2019 volunteers will have benefits such as the training program offered with the support of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) and they will receive a certificate for their training and participation. Likewise, they will receive a uniform, accreditation, meals according to shift, accident insurance, national and international contact network, and the opportunity to live a unique experience.
