PERUVIAN NATIONAL POLICE PERFORMS SECOND LIMA 2019 LANE TEST IN CALLAO

The Transit, Transport and Road Safety Department of the Peruvian National Police and the Lima 2019 Organizing Committee carried out the "Second Lima 2019 Lane Test” in Callao, to ensure the proper delivery of the Pan American and Parapan American Games competitions and ceremonies.

General Jorge Lam, director of the Transit department of the PNP, and Álvaro Castro, head of Lima 2019 Transport department, were present during this operation and explained how these routes will be used during the Games.

On the route from the satellite village to the Callao Regional Sports Village, official vehicles will transport more than 1000 athletes, judges, referees, accredited press, volunteers and the Games official entourage.

Therefore, transit was restricted today both ways from 04:00 to 09:00 in the left lane of this route. The new Callao Sports Center and the remodeled Miguel Grau Coliseum are located on Avenida Guardia Chalaca, which is part of this route.

“We’ve tried many possible situations for the transport of official delegations during the Games, as we’ve committed to provide the best transportation and safety conditions for all. The most important thing is that citizens also agree to respect these measures,” said Álvaro Castro.

Also, General Lam was pleased with the results of this road test. “This is an important test because it allows to raise awareness on the transport changes among the population of Callao and ensure the free movement of athletes and officials in Games-time. For example, the Miguel Grau Avenue will be a non-parking area to reduce the transit impact to the minimum,” he stated.

TRAFFIC TICKETS

Drivers who do not respect the Lima 2019 Lane and enter this exclusive road will be committing G10 and G16 traffic violations of the National Traffic Regulations for “failing to comply with the provisions regarding the use of rapid transit routes and/or restricted access” and “driving a vehicle along a route where transit is not allowed,” respectively. Both are serious violations and the traffic ticket costs PEN 336.00.

It is worth pointing out that this temporarily segregated lane, which is 11.8 kilometers long, will be enabled only on the days of sport competitions and training sessions.

During the Pan American Games, the traffic restriction will run according to the competition schedule on the following roads:

From the Peruvian Naval Academy Satellite Village to the Callao Regional Sports Village:

-Jr. Comandante Fanning.

-Jr. Medina.

-Av. Miguel Grau.

-Av. Buenos Aires.

-Av. Oscar R. Benavides.

-Jr. Alejandro Granda.

From the Callao Regional Sports Village to the Peruvian Naval Academy Satellite Village:

-Jr. Alejandro Granda.

-Av. Guardia Chalaca.

-Av. Buenos Aires.

-Av. Miguel Grau.

-Av. Bolognesi.

-Jr. Sáenz Peña.

-Jr. Comandante Fanning.

In order to avoid traffic, the Peruvian National Police recommends using the following alternative routes in both ways:

-Av. Agustín Gamarra

-Av. Jorge Chávez

-Av. Manco Cápac

-Av. Guardia Chalaca
