The women’s national team trains hard (twice a day) at the Callao Sports Center as indicated by their coach, Francisco “Paco” Hervás, in the final stretch of their preparation for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games. The coach strengthens his game tactics for the upcoming Challenger Cup, which will be held from June 26 to 30 at the Bonilla Coliseum in Miraflores.
Five national teams from other continents will also participate in the tournament organized by the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB). Chinese Taipei from Asia, Argentina from South America, Canada from NORCECA and two more countries that will qualify from the European Golden League (Czech Republic and Croatia are favorites). The winner will qualify to the FIVB Nations League.
A week ago, Hervás completed the team that will represent us in Lima 2019. The six main players are Zoila La Rosa (setter), Clarivett Yllescas (middle blocker), Maguilaura Frías and Ángela Leyva (both hitters), Daniela Uribe (opposite hitter) and Vanessa Palacios.
After this tournament, the Peruvian national team will compete against the 12 best nations of the Americas in the Pan American Volleyball Cup. The cup will go from July 4 to 15 in Trujillo and Chiclayo. Peru, Cuba, Argentina, Guatemala, Canada and Dominican Republic are in Pool A. The last two countries are rivals in Lima 2019.
VOLLEYBALL IN LIMA 2019
Women’s national volleyball team will be in pool A in the Pan American Games. They will play against Canada on June 7 at 20:30, while Dominican Republic and Colombia, other countries in the same pool, will play two hours before. On the same day, in pool B, Brazil will play against Puerto Rico at 13:00 and United States will play against Argentina at 15:00.
The competition format includes a round-robin preliminary round for the two four-team pools (A and B). The first two teams of each group will qualify to the semifinals. The two winners of the semifinal will qualify to the final match for the gold medal. The two remaining teams will dispute the bronze medal.

ABOUT LIMA 2019
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games is a continental event that will gather 6680 athletes from 41 countries and will open on July 26 at the National Stadium. There will be 17 days of competitions, which will take place in 14 districts of Lima and Callao. Some of the main venues will be the VIDENA, Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center, Callao Regional Sports Village, Villa El Salvador Sports Center, Punta Rocas, among others.
The Lima 2019 Pan American Games will include 39 sports and 61 disciplines, in which athletes will compete for gold, silver and bronze medals. A total of 22 disciplines are qualifiers for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
