The modern hockey stadium, built by Lima 2019 in Villa María del Triunfo for the Pan American Games, had its first important test when the women’s hockey team played three consecutive matches against New York’s St. Lawrence University team. Athletes were amazed by the facilities.
The Peruvian national team, who will participate from July 26 in the Pan American Games, won the three matches against the university team. “These matches allow us to assess our game system but also to get used to the new fields installed in Peru. We’ve never had fields like this,” said the head of the Technical Unit Patricio Martínez.
Unlike women, the men’s team keeps training on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, fine tuning zone details and strengthening physical conditions under the supervision of Diego Martínez.
The women’s and men’s hockey teams will travel tonight to Buenos Aires to participate in a new training stage, on their road to Lima 2019.

TICKET TO TOKYO 2020
The eight teams will be split into two groups of four teams each. After the first stage that will have a round-robin format, the top two teams of each group will face each other in the semifinals to determine which teams will fight for the gold, silver and bronze medals. Teams in the third and fourth place of each group will play an additional round to define the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth places.
The hockey tournament —in both categories— at the Pan American Games will qualify the champion to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
