Aside of the negative results, the Peruvian women’s football team draw several conclusions from its two friendly matches against Colombia just three months away from its participation in Lima 2019. In the second match held at the San Marcos Stadium, the coach Doriva Bueno pointed out the achievements of his team.
Even tough Peru faced a rival with experience at the Women’s World Championship, it managed to accomplish a few feats thanks to wingers Cindy Novoa and Emily Flores. However, the forwards Gladys Dorador and Miryan Tristán lacked efficiency in the final meters.
The only Peruvian goal was scored by Pierina Núñez in the first match played at the VIDENA, where Peru loss 2-1 to Colombia. The 19-year-old athlete was promoted to regular first-team player for the second match held at San Marcos, where Peru fell 4-0. Colombia’s training made all the difference at this venue, which will also house the football competitions during the Pan American Games.
ABOUT THE COMPETITION
The men’s football competitions will be held between July 28 and August 9 at the San Marcos Stadium only. Other participants, besides Peru, are Colombia, Argentina, Paraguay, Jamaica, Panama, Mexico and Costa Rica. The draw will take place this Friday at the main auditorium of the Peruvian Football Federation.
The championship format includes an initial stage of two groups of four teams and the best two will move on to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals stage, teams play an extra 30 minutes in case of a tie to determine the finalists and the same occurs when defining the medalists. If the match remains tied after the extra session, a penalty shootout will be played.
