Sasakawa 7094 School in Villa El Salvador is located just a few meters away from the Pan American and Parapan American Village, which will accommodate 10,000 athletes and technical officials that will participate in the Pan American and Parapan American Games.
The school welcomed the Soy Lima 2019 campaign along with Gianpierre Reaño and Jesus Vargas, members of the Peruvian national baseball team, who carried out an exhibition for the students.
“This is a good idea because it helps promote this sport and makes it more accessible so children that are not familiar with it can have a good experience and want to play it,” said Jesus Vargas, Venezuelan-born Peruvian citizen, the Peruvian team’s pitcher.
This was the second time Gianpierre Reaño visited a school and when he was asked to participate in an exhibition he did not hesitate. “Each time I’m more motivated because we need to popularize the sport to take baseball to a higher level. These schools are full of future talents and national team members,” he pointed out.
All 800 students participated in the socio-cultural activity that promotes Olympic and Paralympic values. They also took part in the 10-minute exercise routine promoted by the Ministry of Education.
“They are all motivated and excited about the Pan American and Parapan American Games because we are close to the Village. So, we have carried out several activities highlighting sports and healthy living, as well as reminding them that values are an everyday thing and they help us change our lives,” stressed Ada Rosa Figueroa, the school principal.
Because the students showed great interest in baseball, the Peruvian national team members shared a message to encourage them to follow this path.
“Be disciplined and determined when focusing on a goal, not only as a hobby, but because you really like it,” noted Vargas.
The Villa El Salvador Sports Center will host karate and all gymnastics events, while the Villa Maria del Triunfo Sports Center will house baseball between July 29 to August 4.
