As part of the “Soy Lima 2019” campaign, the Peruvian water polo team, who will represent us at the Pan American Games, performed an exhibition at the 6056 Santa Rosa Alta school in Villa María del Triunfo.
The water polo competitions will be held in the same district as the school, at the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center.
Athletes Miranda Nieto, Ariana Burga, Diego Villar and Germán Rodríguez participated in this campaign, whose main purpose is to promote the Olympic and Paralympic values. They also explained some details of this sport to the students.
“Promoting sports at a school is the best thing because children will be motivated for their future,” said Gonzalo Rodríguez, who plays water polo in the Division I and in the Northeast Conference from the USA.
“These activities are interesting because children get to know a new sport,” said Miranda Nieto, who received the U-20 Top Scorer Award in 2018.
The athletes found the children’s welcome very encouraging as it motivated them for the Lima 2019 competitions that will be held at the Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center.
“I felt appreciated since everyone was excited to see us. Besides, the sports center is close, and I hope many people can go,” added Miranda Nieto.
“Children always show their affection, so this experience was both unique and different for us. Children are impressed when they see us wearing the Peruvian uniform. I hope this encourages them to go and watch this event, where top athletes will compete,” said Rodríguez.
Water polo competitions will be held from August 4 to 10 at Villa María del Triunfo Sports Center. Group B for women’s teams is composed of Cuba, Canada and Mexico. Group B for men’s teams is composed of Mexico, Brazil and Argentina.
