SERGIO GALDOS: “WE’RE GOING TO FIGHT FOR A MEDAL”

Sergio Galdos will represent Peru in tennis during the Pan American Games, together with Juan Pablo Varillas and Nicolás Álvarez. He is preparing as best as possible with the help of his coach Tupi Venero, so he can participate in Lima 2019.

“We’re going to fight for medals in singles and doubles because, we’re in a really good place right now. It’s amazing that we’re hosts. Representing Peru at the Pan American Games is a dream, and I’m going to do everything I can to make my country proud,” said the prominent Peruvian tennis player.

Galdos was present at the Manuel Seoane Corrales school in the district of Ventanilla, alongside the young tennis player, Diego Rojas, as part of the “Callao is Lima 2019” campaign, promoted by the Regional Government of Callao.

“It’s an amazing experience, and I love these kinds of initiatives to decentralize sports, and take it to kids who are willing to do it. There’s more than enough talent in Peru,” he added.

Meanwhile, Diego Rojas assured that “to be able to interact with other kids is amazing, because I can encourage others to play this sport,” stated the 16-year-old tennis player, who is the national champion in his category.

Galdos also assured that there is no difference between Pan American and Parapan American athletes. “I’ve had the chance to meet Gustavo Fernández, the best Argentinian wheelchair tennis player, and his determination, sacrifice and personality are incredible,” he emphasized.

The Peruvian tennis player also talked about the recent law enacted by Congress in favor of athletes who win medals at Lima 2019. “I think it’s a good way to motivate athletes and the future generations by telling them that, if you do things right, the Government and the country will support you. Just leave everything on the field,” Galdos highlighted.

During the Pan American Games, tennis competitions will take place at the Lawn Tennis Club in the district of Jesús María, from July 29 to August 4. Meanwhile, wheelchair tennis competitions will be held from August 24 to 30 at the Parapan American Games.
